The process of getting a root canal isn’t always pleasant, but it’s necessary for a number of people in many different circumstances.
Here at Healthy Smiles Dental Care PC, Dr. Chris Kim has the experience necessary to make your root canal experience a good one. So let’s take a look at what you should know about the procedure ahead of getting one.
How does it work?
A root canal is pretty straightforward. Dr. Chris Kim will remove the top of the infected tooth (root canals are performed on teeth with infected or inflamed pulp, to stop the spread of the infection to other teeth). Then, he will remove the infected pulp.
After that’s completed, a crown will be fitted over the top of your tooth to restore the tooth’s original function, appearance, and feel.
What does it fix?
If you have an infection in your tooth, you’ll likely need a root canal to remove the infection and prevent it from spreading to surrounding teeth. The infection can cause tooth death, and you don’t want many teeth in your mouth dying simultaneously. If the tooth can be saved, a root canal will be performed. If not, Dr. Chris Kim may recommend an extraction.
Often, if you have any sort of lingering pain in a particular tooth, this is a sign that you need a root canal to fix it. If you have a tooth that’s been bothering you for some time, you should call us today at 860-623-2601 to schedule an appointment so Dr. Chris Kim can determine what course of action to take to fix the afflicted tooth.
